If it’s not a story, it doesn’t stick. And what is a story, but a thought, feeling, or time, loosely organized into a beginning, middle, and end? And what is a poem, if not a story? What poem doesn’t do it’s level best to hook you with the first line?
I had to laugh at myself. Why should a certain thought or emotion completely change what I was able to see in the mirror?
I hope that you find in this poem the unspoken message that no matter how dark today may seem, no matter the pain or the cage you face, hope, freedom and light are waiting for you when you’re ready to grasp it.
I hope that whatever you’re facing this week, you find opportunity to grow from it like a stepable.

How often do we think about what they were like before they were heroes? Do we ever consider what a hero must have been like during their angst-filled teenage years? Do we take time to remember how many times they failed in order to become successful?
Now, the poem today is one of those that always makes me smile. It reminds me of truths I often need, and has been known to keep me centered and strong in truly stressful moments. This makes sense, given that unlike some other poems, I wrote this for myself; indeed, for this express purpose. If it can do something similar for you, I would be thrilled.
