The Wrong Holiday

I know that around Christmas time one is supposed to do Christmas-y things, but I’ve decided to share a whole lot of poems with you guys over the next few weeks. So to start, I’d like to share a poem I wrote for my mother on Mother’s Day, 2015. As I show you guys these poems, I will make no attempt alter these from their original form (other than basic spelling and grammar edits), because I want you guys to see the real me, and the real history.

So without further ado, “Mother’s Day Poem”.

I decided to give a gift

Which only I could give

Thus a small creation was

The preferable operative

I thought that selected memories

Would share my love the best

But I wanted just to say

I loved you in all the rest

Think back and recall the past

Those nights when nightmares woke me

I’d run to you and hide in your arms

And stay till my fears left

And I felt your warmth in my heart

I learned from you and still do

When in need I could turn to you

You would be open, safe, patient

And you and I could trust in God,

Who is greater than Satan.

Think back and recall the past

That day when excited you said

That I had bacteria in my armpits

I must admit, I thought you strange

To take such pleasure in this

I learned from you and still do

That part of love is loving change

And growth is not a bad thing

And though it isn’t always comfortable

Look forward to the end it brings

Think back and recall the past

The day you brought home kittens

That mischievous look you wore

At that little mewl I was smitten

And together our spirit’s soared

I learned from you and still do

The kind of love that anticipates

And moving on can be employed

And that it is perfectly appropriate

To cry from feeling joy

In these memories above

You’ve showed me much and taught more

And for this endless love

I will always, ever adore

Let me know what you think in the comments!

With grins,
